Hello and thank you for stopping by! I'm Emilia Malory, of Books by Emilia. As a (now graduated) English major, it has of course always been my dream to write a book. Well, two years into a global pandemic I figured there is no time like the present. My true loves are animals (I am a serial foster mom), nature, and stories of any kind. I have a particular love of fantasy, nurtured from a childhood built on Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Arthurian literature. I see The Celliwig Chronicles and this blog as a very special opportunity to share what is sure to be a difficult but worthwhile experience - one that I am incredibly grateful for.

Here, I will document the highs and lows of the writing process (from my current stage of outline development to the final edit), attempt to meet writer's block head-on, and meander a bit into other topics of interest, including my favorite stories, aesthetics, and the occasional life update.

The primary focus of this blog is to document my progress on The Celliwig Chronicles. While it is still in very early development, the series is currently planned for three books, primarily taking place in a land called Rodinia, which houses the very famous and very elite Celliwig University. The Celliwig Chronicles is a mix of fantasy, romance, and dark academia (perhaps with a pinch of magic). Join our characters as they discover secrets hidden for over a millennium, deal with love and loss, and discover that some legends are best left unearthed.

Welcome to Celliwig

What Does 'Journey' Mean?

Across this site, you may have notice that I used the term 'journey' to excess. I want to take a moment to explain what I mean by the term. After significant thought, I realized that journey is the only appropriate word for what lies ahead for three main reasons:

Across this site, you may have notice that I used the term 'journey' to excess. I want to take a moment to explain what I mean by the term. After significant thought, I realized that journey is the only appropriate word for what lies ahead for three main reasons:

  1. I am - in my heart of hearts - quite dramatic. Perhaps I have spent too much time listening to Howard Shore's gorgeous Journey to the Grey Havens, but I think the word evokes a unique sense of adventure. While I may not move physically, I plan to be transported quite far.
  2. There is a transformative nature to a journey. All I can say is that I am quite overdue for a transformation. There are many things that led me to doing this work at this particular moment. One, chief among them, that I am still struggling with. While I don't want to lose any of the past, I am ready to walk alongside it.
  3. In every book I've read (and there have been many) no journey can be truly complete without someone who is there for the ride. That is why I created this blog, in hopes of developing a mutual companionship as Celliwig develops.
